Dear Educator,
I am writing this letter on behalf of Jan Scheuermann. I am currently a gifted coordinator at Hempfield Area School District. This past November, we were privileged to host Mrs. Scheuermann as a guest speaker, addressing a group of 60 students at our Neuroscience Day. Over the course of the fall semester, students spent time studying content related to brain anatomy, neurologic disorders, and the interplay of technology with medical science. Mrs. Scheuermann was the “grand finale” to our event, as well as the capstone to a semester’s worth of academic work.
During Mrs. Scheuermann’s address, she discussed the events that elapsed in her life leading her to work with the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and UPMC. Over the course of the hour long address, the students were absorbed by the work that Jan and her team at UPMC have undertaken to advance brain-based research. Jan was able to make the students feel comfortable and encouraged them to ask thoughtful and meaningful questions. I cannot express just how vastly the students were impacted for the better by Mrs. Scheuermann’s presentation.
As an educator, I can attest to the fact that the experience we had with Mrs. Scheuermann was among the most fruitful of my career as a public school teacher. Not only have my students been encouraged to consider, more concretely, careers in neuroscience and biotechnology fields, but I sincerely believe they were impacted positively on both an emotional and psychological level.
As such, I both endorse and highly encourage Mrs. Scheuermann’s presentation, and feel that her ability to connect with students will have a powerful and lasting impact on their lives.
Sincerely,
Molly E. Weaver
