Dear Jan,
Thank you for sharing your touching story with our sixth through eighth graders on Wednesday. Your life is an inspiration to all of us. I also thank you for inviting our Kindergarten students to join us afterwards to learn about your wheelchair.
I was particularly touched by your commitment to our faith and how that faith has enabled you to accept the cross that God has given you to bear. The fact that you started out your presentation by speaking about your faith and opened your slide show with a Biblical quotation could not have been a better example to our children of how God should be at the forefront of our lives. It is important that we all remember that God is with us at all times and that He does not let us travel our path on Earth alone. You really are a living example of what God expects of all of us.
Your humor throughout the program, from naming Hector and Lewis and Clark, to dressing them up for holidays, to calling your presentation, “My Life as a Lab Rat” certainly made us all pay attention to what you had to offer us. The older students were very intrigued by Lewis and Clark and concerned that you experienced pain from them.
When the Kindergarten students joined us, your straight-forward answers to their questions and explanation of your wheelchair were a joy to behold. I hope all of our students took away a new appreciation for those who are “different”.
Please know that our prayers are with you as you move forward with this marvelous work that you are doing. We look forward to having you visit us again and hearing about the great strides that the study is making.
