To those interested;

I would like to recommend Jan Scheuermann  to be an inspirational speaker at your next event.

Jan Scheuermann  was my roommate in college.  She was (and is) a joyous practical joker. One day I found pennies from my change bowl inside my pillowcase, one in my short-sheeted bed, even rolled up in my socks!  It was this delight in fun and creative challenges that served her when she found herself in a rough battle fighting a disease, a disease which eventually left her paralyzed from the neck down.  Even in this limited state she found means to write a murder humorous mystery book, Sharp as a Cucumber, keep her extended family close, and, with her husband Bob, guide her two children into adulthood.

Her attitude and gamesmanship also served her well when she was given the opportunity to participate in a research project at the University of Pittsburgh, our alma mater, to aid a group of talented scientists in trying to manipulate an electronic arm with her mind.  Jan surpassed all expectations in her almost two years as, how she calls it, being a “lab rat” for science.

On September 24, 2015, Jan spoke at my home church, Spencer United Methodist in Pittsburgh, to speak on her background and the research with which she assisted. As Jan explains it, she knows God put her in the right place at the right time, to be of service to the unknown soldiers who will one day benefit from the research done at Pitt.  Her talk is one of humor and knowledge, of faith and joy, of realistic problems and future possibility.  She captivated the group with her humor, her knowledge, and a photo presentation of her adventure.  Our evening with Jan is one that all have said they will remember the rest of their lives.  She will inspire you.

Sincerely,

Jayme Graham
