At the national conference of the Consortium of College and University Media Centers held this year in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, we had the honor of listening to Ms. Jan Scheuermann as our keynote speaker. The Consortium is a professional group that promotes leadership in the support of quality teaching and learning at higher education institutions and provides a forum for information exchange to the supporters of academic technology. Membership includes representatives from all sizes of post-secondary institutions as well as private enterprises who supply instructional technology products.
It is an understatement to say Ms. Scheuermann impressed the audience with her honesty, intelligence and wit. Her remarkable story of participation in cutting edge medical advancement captivated all 250 people in attendance. Her exceptional attitude, genuine frankness, and her humorous yet touching anecdotes truly moved the membership. Having been involved with CCUMC for seven years, she was the first keynote speaker I ever saw to receive a standing ovation.
Throughout the remainder of the conference, countless members approached me commenting about the impact of Jan’s presentation. She touched our hearts with her compelling narrative and delightful sense of humor. She made each of us appreciate how truly blessed we are, made us understand we all have a purpose, and displayed how attitude is extremely important in coping with life’s tribulations.
Her captivating presentation, “The Lighter Side of Being a Lab Rat,” inspires and entertains. She is an astonishing woman with a memorable tale to tell.
